HybridNeuro Researcher Nina Murks Receives Prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” Award in Slovenia
Researcher Nina Murks, a member of the HybridNeuro project team, has received the prestigious L'Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” national award in Slovenia. The recognition was presented on 4 March 2026 at Ljubljana Castle, celebrating outstanding young women researchers in natural and technical sciences.
Nina, an assistant and researcher at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics, was honoured for her research on communication between the brain and muscles. Using advanced algorithms and biomedical signal analysis, her work aims to better understand the mechanisms of human movement and corticomuscular coupling.
Her research contributes to the development of new approaches in rehabilitation, neurology, sports medicine, and advanced prosthetic technologies, helping improve independence, safety, and quality of life for individuals with movement impairments.
The national L'Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” programme, organised by L'Oréal Adria and the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, supports promising early-career women researchers in Slovenia. Each year, three researchers receive this award in recognition of their scientific excellence.
In 2026, the award was presented to Živa Alif (agrarian economics), Dana Marinič (chemical engineering), and Nina Murks (computer and information science). The award ceremony took place at Ljubljana Castle, Slovenia. The recipients were also greeted by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar. In her talk, Dr. Nataša Pirc Musar emphasized that without women, science cannot provide comprehensive answers to the climatic, technological, and societal challenges of modern times.
Nina's recognition also highlights the strong research contributions emerging from the HybridNeuro project, which aims to advance knowledge and technologies related to brain-body interaction.
